Catherine Bontilao Allen is a senior at Stockton University, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus in Visual Communications and a minor in Art History. Hailing from New Gretna, New Jersey, Catherine has been immersed in the world of art from an early age, first picking up a pencil to draw at the age of six. Her artistic journey evolved over the years, and by the age of twelve, she had begun experimenting with painting. At sixteen, she discovered digital illustration and graphic design, marking the start of her exploration into the intersection of traditional art and modern technology. This diverse background has shaped her approach to visual storytelling and design, blending classic techniques with contemporary methods.
As a first-generation Filipino American, Catherine’s cultural heritage plays an integral role in shaping her artistic perspective. Her work often reflects the rich traditions of her Filipino roots while also embracing the diverse influences of her American upbringing. This unique blend of cultural influences enables her to create art that resonates on both a personal and universal level, aiming to bridge gaps and tell stories that are both meaningful and inclusive.
Beyond her academic studies, Catherine is deeply engaged in the creative community at Stockton University. She is an active member of the Stockton Creative Collective, where she collaborates with other students to promote and celebrate artistic expression on campus. She also serves within the Pilipina American Student Association (PASAS), helping to foster a sense of community among Filipino American students and encouraging cultural pride. Additionally, Catherine is currently serving as a CEO Intern on the Branding and Marketing Committee, where she helps to design visual materials and manage the collective’s marketing initiatives.
As a freelance graphic designer and studio artist, Catherine is passionate about using her skills to create meaningful connections. Through her work, she strives to bring diverse voices and creative minds together, fostering a sense of belonging and empowering others to share their stories. Whether in the classroom, through her internships, or in her creative projects, Catherine is dedicated to building spaces where art can serve as a powerful tool for communication, collaboration, and community building.
