Yuliya Semenova<\/p>\n

I am a 2021 Stockton University graduate with a BFA in Painting and a minor in Art History. I loved art since I was a child, but my main passion has always been painting – I find it strangely comforting to be able to create an alternative universe on a flat surface. In my work I explore how cultures, histories and individual identities intersect and are constructed. I look at my own identity of a Ukrainian refugee, identities of my friends and families and in my paintings, through repetition, symbolism, and unrealistic colors, I try to emphasize how everything in this world is connected in a strange way.<\/p>\n

Inspired by dreams, history, classical traditions, and people, I incorporate my traditional Eastern European academic art training and the contemporary art theories in my works. I try to find my voice and I also speak the voice of our generation of uncertainty and risk.<\/p>\n
