Lea Barone is an aspiring sculptor with her BFA in Visual Arts, with Art History and Theatre Studies Minors. Lea has always had an affinity for design and fashion, which she has spent many of her years at Stockton University developing. She has been lead costume designer for two theatre productions; in addition to developing many wearable sculpture pieces out of found objects, unique textiles, stuffed animals, children’s toys, and other unconventional, repurposed objects. Lea’s BFA Exhibition focuses on the heavy, but very real topic – the effects childhood sexual assault has on women, after they’ve grown up. Using a collection of materials; distorted children’s toys, feminine products, lingerie, and more – she creates a morose, unsettling, overgrown tumorous depiction of the trauma that lies beneath the woman.
