The subject of my work is hidden emotions.I deliberately used black women to represent myself. A variety of colors convey the emotions that the women are feeling.  I use charcoal to create a deliberately  unfinished look, smudging the material. I also use oil paint to make a variety of different size brush strokes in each. The material choices express what I was feeling when I created each one. I layered the people with different angles to show multiple sides of the person that others might not see. Some of the figures you can’t fully see unless you walk closer to it or farther away. The more you look, the more you can see how each figure interacts with the others.
